Here are a few recordings that give a flavour of what we do at Blackburn People’s Choir.
Of course, we’re always even better live and in concert, where the energy, atmosphere and connection with the audience really bring the music to life.
As you listen, we hope you find yourself thinking:
“Wow… that’s the choir for me!”

Bridge Over Troubled Water.
Blackburn People’s Choir brings warmth and emotional depth to Audrey Snyder’s a cappella arrangement of Bridge Over Troubled Water. Sung entirely without accompaniment, the choir’s voices create the rich harmonies and gentle rise of the music, allowing the power of Paul Simon’s timeless song to shine through. The arrangement builds from a reflective opening to a full, resonant choral sound, capturing both the tenderness and the strength at the heart of the song. It’s a moment that reflects what Blackburn People’s Choir does best – blending voices, friendship and musical expression to create something uplifting for singers and audience alike. Gwen Sangsters solo at the beginning beautifully sets the scene.
Cool Moon.
Blackburn People’s Choir performs “Cool Moon” by Richard A. Williamson, a beautifully atmospheric a cappella piece inspired by the poetry of Carl Sandburg. The music captures the quiet mystery of a moonlit night, with gently shifting harmonies and flowing vocal lines that create a shimmering, almost dream-like sound. Sung entirely without accompaniment, the choir’s voices blend to paint a musical picture of stillness and reflection, allowing the subtle colours of the arrangement to emerge. It’s a piece that shows the choir’s ability to create mood and atmosphere through pure vocal harmony.
